The principle of feed pellet mill making pellets

The core principle of feed pellet mills is that mechanical extrusion forces the pulverized raw materials through a die to form pellets, and frictional heat is used to cook the raw materials.

1. Working Principle of Flat Die Feed Pellet Mill (Commonly Used in Small and Medium-Sized Farms and Family Farms)
The core working components of a flat die pellet mill are a horizontally placed flat die (with a perforated grinding disc) and a pressure roller. The specific process is as follows:

① The power-driven pressure roller revolves around the main shaft while simultaneously rotating on its own axis, clamping the powdery raw material that enters the gap between the flat die and the pressure roller.

② The pressure roller continuously squeezes the material into the die holes of the flat die, compacting it into a cylindrical strip.

③ During the extrusion process, the material experiences intense friction with the grinding disc and pressure roller, generating high temperatures that cause the starch in the material to gelatinize and mature, and the proteins to denature and coagulate.

④ The formed strip is extruded from below the flat die and finally cut into pellets of the specified length by a cutter, then discharged from the machine.

Processing characteristics: The process mainly uses dry materials, requiring little or no liquid addition. The moisture content of the finished product is basically the same as that of the raw materials, which is more conducive to storage. The high temperature generated during the extrusion process not only cooks the nutrients and improves digestibility and absorption, but also kills pathogenic microorganisms and parasite eggs in the raw materials, thus improving feed safety.
